THE HIGHWAYMEN SKITTLE TEAM
HISTORICAL EXPERIENCE !!!!!!!!
I
have not had enough time to add all the information onto this
section of the Highwaymen Website.
It
has been noticed that during these ancient times the Highwaymen
Skittle Team actually dared to win some trophies , something for
the current team to look up too !!!!!!!
I
will break the History down into decades . I shall add
information as & when I recieve. If anybody out there has any
photographs of old Highwaymen Teams is it possible to send me a
copy . If interesting enough i will eventually add it to this
site .
Click
on links below to take you to the season you would like to visit
. Who knows if you were an ex - Highwayman you might see your
name !!!!!! ??????
I
shall also be adding a section with reference to classic games
the Highwaymen Skittle Team have been involved in . It seems
looking through the games in the 90's that most of the excitement
has occured in the King Pin Knockout . If anybody out there has
any stories about games prior to the 90's please 'e' mail us
I
have recently recieved some further imformation from Rob Sturmy .
I will add this as soon as i possibly can .
Brief Team History .
The Highwaymen
Skittle Team was started in 1971 and over the years has become
one of the most well established teams in the Worcester Friendly
Skittle League (Wednesday) . The original team was started by
workers at the County Council who worked for the Highways &
Byways Department , hence the name the Highwaymen . For the
majority of this time the team was based at the Old County
Officers Club in Castle Street Worcester . Which used to be
affectionatley called the dungeons , because before it was a
skittle alley it used to be the police cells . But due to the
County Officers Club closing down we were forced into finding a
new home alley . Since then we have played on two other alleys.
The first being the West Midland Tavern , Lowesmoor Worcester
(1993-95). The second being the Anchor Inn , Diglis Worcester
(1995 - current) . Like with all teams , due to change &
development none of the current team members now work for the
County Council. The team has been reasonable successful over the
years . But unfortunatley we have a habit of being the bridesmaid
& never the bride. Runners up 4 times over the last 5 seasons
just goes to prove that statement . In recent times we always
seem to have a problem per season to hinder our progress . Most
notably we were disqualified from the 2 Knockout competitons for
playing somebody who was already signed on for another team . The
majority of the current team have been playing for the Highwaymen
for the past 9 years . If anybody out there has any information
about the past Highwaymen Teams I would be interested to here
from you . Below I have added a page with more details on past
Highwaymen Teams . Delve if you dare !!!
